“Insight” is a part time educational programme for adults who want to learn more about poverty and inequality. It provides people with the opportunity to travel to Tanzania or India for a period of 3 weeks to explore and learn about these challenging issues. Participants on the programme focus on how they can bring about changes in their own communities as part of the process.

A past participant of Insight is Kells resident, Deirdre Hurley who works as a radio producer with LMFM. Deirdre stated that “’Getting involved with the Insight programme was a hugely positive experience. For me, it was both challenging and inspiring. It woke me up to some of the great injustices and inequalities in our world but in a very real way. I realised that we share so much with other communities around the world and while we see ourselves as developed we have so much to learn. After finishing Insight I realised that my actions, no matter how small, make an impact – that’s the most important thing I learned.’

Education is recognized globally as the key in tackling the root causes of complex challenges such as poverty and inequality and DP is seen as a leader in the field of non formal education. Having successfully run the Insight programme since 2006, DP is now Co chairing the Development Awareness Raising and Education (DARE) forum in Europe and at present is running a Global Leadership programme for 54 activists from around the world. So in terms of quality, the Insight programme provides access to the best facilitators and activists within this area.

Bobby McCormack who is the co-founder and Director of Development Perspectives said “Participants on the Insight programme can be assured that the experience, which awaits them is exciting, challenging and very rewarding not only because of the opportunity to visit Tanzania or India but also because of the friends they`ll meet, the learning which will occur and the positive impact they will contribute to”. He added, “Local and global communities need active citizens who are willing to contribute to a fairer, more just and sustainable world. Taking part in Insight is one way of playing your part”.
