Maria in South Africa – a time for reflection

Maria reflects on the loss she feels today for her cousin Theresa and the comfort she finds in Mandela’s Africa:

“I don’t like to create sad posts but this isn’t meant to be one. Five years ago we lost the greatest asset to our family; Theresa. She wasn’t just any ordinary girl, she was effortlessly extraordinary. It is without any doubt I can say, no day goes by without many people remembering her and her dear friends who passed. Today I celebrated Theresa’s life in South Africa, among two hundred volunteers and the staff of Niall Mellon Township Trust who are on this voyage to educating the children of South Africa. I was lucky enough to step away from the building site and stand on the land where Nelson Mandela grew up and reminisce on the many reasons why I wear a ladybird so proudly behind my ear in honor of Theresa and our childhood stories. What an inspiring place to be. A beautiful place to remember our person who has changed this great big world even at nineteen years. To quote Madiba; “what counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead”. w/love T, with love always. Mx”
