Rose Wall of Honour

I spent a happy day in Tralee recently launching the Rose Wall of Honour in the Rose Garden in Tralee Town Park. This series of glass panels will contain the name of every Rose who has participated in the Festival since 1959 – that’s nearly 2,000 names!

Kerry County Council are in the process of completing the glass panels and the final finished article will be opened by yours truly in the Town Park on Thursday 15th August at 3pm.

Joining me will be many Roses and Roses of Tralee who are returning to Tralee and the Festival as part of the 2013 Rose Gathering.

The Roses and Dogs Trust

I was delighted to learn that one of the Festival’s major sponsors, The Carlton Hotel Group, has developed a novel way of assisting the Dogs Trust to find homes for stray and abandoned puppies and dogs.

Dogs Trust is Ireland’s largest dog welfare charity and The Carlton Hotel Group has chosen them to be their preferred charity for 2013. With Carlton Hotel Group’s long standing sponsorship of the Rose of Tralee International Festival, it couldn’t have taken much time before the Roses wanted some puppy love.

Each of the 32 Roses have a dog named after them looking for warm and cuddly new homes. Carlton Hotels has put together a Facebook app that will allow you to see photographs and descriptions of the dogs. If you’d like to assist in rehoming these dogs, log onto The Carlton Hotel Group’s Facebook and you can enquire directly about adopting or simply share with your friends/family.
